Information We Collect

Information Collected Automatically

Like most websites, the Site receives technical information from your browser when you visit: your IP address, browser type and version, device type, the pages you view, the page that referred you, and the date and time of each request. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes this information to deliver the pages and to protect the Site against abuse.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which guides are read and how visitors move through the Site. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects information such as pages viewed, time on page, approximate location (country and city level, derived from your IP address), device and browser, and clicks on outbound links, including affiliate links. We use these reports only in aggregate. You can read how Google uses this information at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Information You Send Us

If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message. We use it only to reply and keep it only as long as needed for that conversation. The Site has no accounts and no comment forms.

The Newsletter

If you join the AquaponicsDIYer newsletter, we store:

  • your email address;
  • the date and time you signed up, the page you signed up on and which form you used;
  • the exact wording you agreed to and its version;
  • a one-way hash of your IP address, your approximate country and your browser's user agent, which we use to stop abuse and automated sign-ups.

Sign-ups are stored with Cloudflare, our hosting provider. We send a confirmation email from hello@aquaponicsdiyer.com through our own mail server, and you only start receiving the newsletter once you click the link in it. We use your address only to send the newsletter: new guides and seasonal tips, about once a month. We never sell or share it, and we never add you to anyone else's list.

Every email has an unsubscribe link that works in one click. When you unsubscribe we stop sending straight away and keep only a record that you left, so we never email you again by mistake. You can also ask us to delete that record.

Some links on the Site are affiliate links to Amazon.com and to products sold through ClickBank. When you click one, the retailer may set its own cookies to record that the visit came from us, so that we can earn a commission if you make a purchase. Those cookies are governed by the retailer's privacy policy, not this one. See our affiliate disclosure for details.

Embedded Videos

Some guides include YouTube videos. A video loads from YouTube only when you click play, using YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). Once it loads, Google's privacy policy applies to that video.

How We Use Information

  • To deliver and secure the Site.
  • To understand which content is useful and improve it.
  • To reply to messages you send us.
  • To send the newsletter, only if you asked for it and confirmed your address.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising.

Your Choices and Rights

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and the Site works without them. Depending on where you live, including California, the European Union and the United Kingdom, you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to its processing. Apart from newsletter sign-ups, we hold almost nothing that identifies you; to make a request, email frank@aquaponicsdiyer.com.

Children

The Site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy when the Site or the services it uses change. The date at the top shows the latest version.
